Swiftwater Rescue (SWR) Clinic

The WVWA Swiftwater Rescue (SWR) clinic is held on a weekend during the summer (when the water is warmer).

The dates and registration information will be posted on our calendar. The location of the clinic is based on water conditions at the time. The class size is limited to 10 WVWA members who are 18 year of age or older. Although all are welcome, preference is given to folks that have not taken the course before.

This clinic is geared toward adult intermediate paddlers. Some whitewater paddling experience is preferred because it helps students relate to issues that can occur on the river.

Day 1 will cover rescue organization, swimming, wading, and the use of throw bags and rescue life vests.

Day 2 will cover boat unpinning, anchors, Z-drags, in-boat entrapment, foot entrapment, and various rescue scenarios.

Contact Don Beyer at 304-419-2246 or safety@wvwa.net to send him an email if you have any questions. Feel free to call to discuss whether this course is right for you.
