Almost fifty novice and beginner paddlers got a taste of whitewater when the West Virginia Wildwater Association (WVWA) hosted their Annual Canoe & Kayak Clinic. Twenty volunteers from the WVWA took the day to help paddlers learn some of the basics of safe whitewater paddling. The clinic is held every June, and this year took place at Grandview Sandbar in New River Gorge National River. The clinic was coordinated by Bridget Tincher, and involved a morning of kayaking basics (and lots of wet exits!) and a 5-mile afternoon trip on the New River. The great weather and warm water made for a particularly enjoyable clinic.
The day could not of been such a great success without the support of Sam from Ace Mountain Sports, TK from North American River Runners, and Dinver of Stark-Moon Kayaks. They all freely and generously offered their equipment and expertise to the clinic participants. Thanks to ALL that helped out!
